Intermediate 2 Goals

  • Writing: Writing paragraphs with correct grammar structure, Making Claims, Citing Evidence
  • Reading: Reading for Story Structure, Making Inferences, Comparing Texts
  • Vocabulary & Spelling

Intermediate 2 Tips

1. Each unit was designed for 2 weeks with about 3 hours of class time per week. If you have your students for less than 3 hours a week, you may want to consider taking more time for a unit. If students are picking up the material quickly and easily, you can try picking up the pace so that you make quicker progress through the level. Just remember the goal is fluency with the content. Learning the material well is better than getting through quickly and forgetting everything.

2. Review of Intermediate 1: The first two units are review of previous levels. Some teachers find the vocabulary a little overwhelming if the students haven't done intermediate 1. You can choose just the words you want to focus on or skip the vocabulary if you need.

3. Grammar Review: If you find that students are struggling a bit with be-verbs (Beginners 4), present simple or present continuous (Low-Intermediate 1), future or past simple tenses (Low-Intermediate 2), past continuous or present perfect (Low-Intermediate 3), basic sentence structure and parts of speech (Low-Intermediate 4), or conjunctions (Intermediate 1)  you can head back to those levels and print off what you need to spend some more time reviewing before moving on with the Intermediate 2 materials.

4. Weak Readers: If your students need to work on reading to decode and phonics at this level, you can grab the Phonics Anchor Chart to review the major phonics combinations. Students can start identifying those combinations in the texts they read by underlining or highlighting words that follow the rules you want them to practice.
